# System Catalog Reference

> Explore Ocient’s system catalog reference for metadata and schema management.

The Ocient® System Catalog comprises a set of virtual tables and views. Together, these present administrators with metadata that describes the state of the data stored in the system, activity on the system, and the configuration of the system. The `information_schema` schema contains views that present information joined from multiple system catalog tables.
